What are Custom Pairs
When you create a coin on Zora, it needs a pairing asset — this is what you trade against when buying or selling. By default, every coin pairs with the creator coin. Custom Pairs let you choose a different asset to pair against instead. That could be ETH, USDC, a Robinhood stock token, a Solana token, or another supported asset.
How this differs from the default
Default (Standard Post): your coin automatically pairs with your creator coin
Custom Pair: you explicitly choose a supported asset during creation.
Things to know
Custom Pairs are available on Base, Robinhood Chain, and Solana
Each coin can only have one custom pair — it can't be changed after creation
Not every coin or asset that has a page on Zora can be used as a custom pair
Common errors
"Invalid custom pair" - The asset you selected can't be used. Common reasons: it's blocked, it already has a custom pair relationship, or it doesn't meet current eligibility rules.
"Ticker already used" - That ticker is taken. Try a different one.
“Ticker validation errors” - Tickers must use only letters and numbers and must meet the minimum and maximum length requirements. Update your ticker and try again.
Fees on Custom Pairs
Custom Pairs have a 1% trading fee on every swap. Here's how it's split:
Chain | Creator | Zora | Doppler |
Base | 70% | 25% | 5% |
Robinhood Chain | 70% | 25% | 5% |
Solana | 70% | 22.5% | 7.5% |
Creator earnings are the same across all supported chains: 0.70% per trade. There is no fee to create a Custom Pair — fees only apply on trades. Creator rewards are paid instantly to your Zora wallet.
Transaction Fees:
When trading on Zora, a transaction fee is applied to your trade:
Trades under $50 — flat fee of $0.50
Trades of $50 and above — fee of 1%
Example:
Buy $10 of $TOKEN → $10 - $0.50 = ~$9.50 received
Buy $100 of $TOKEN → $100 - 1% = ~$99 received
**Note: These are estimates. Final amount may vary based on relayer fees and price impact.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use any coin as a custom pair?
No. Only supported and eligible assets can be used.
Why can I see a pair page for a coin but still not use it as a custom pair?
A coin can have a pair page without being eligible for new custom pair creation.
What should I do if the asset I want doesn't appear?
Search again and confirm the asset is on a supported chain and isn't blocked or ineligible. If it's not in Zora's token data yet, it may not appear as an option. If the issue continues, contact Zora Support with the asset address, chain, and a screenshot of the error
