Zora’s mission has always been to bring creativity onchain, and we are dedicated to creating the best tools, products, and features to make it as easy as possible for creators to earn sustainably from their work. This includes when Creators do not charge a list price on their NFT projects.
Our Protocol Rewards are the next step in this mission and allow us to spread the wealth to those contributing to our growing ecosystem. Creators and developers on Zora can now automatically earn a portion of the mint fees paid by their collectors.
The mint fee will vary based on how the Creator chooses to price their NFT (find additional information on mint fees here). The fee proceeds are then split to reward ecosystem participants as outlined below!
A few factors determine how these rewards are split, with the primary factor being whether the NFT has no list price, is priced in ETH, or is priced in an alternative token (learn more about alternative tokens here).
Before viewing the fee breakdown, there are a few terms to understand:
Create Referral Reward: This reward motivates Zora users to invite others to create on the Zora platform and offers incentives for developers constructing alternative platforms utilizing the Zora Creator Toolkit. Users who refer others will receive an ETH reward on every NFT minted that was created by someone you referred. Platforms that facilitate the creation of collections using the Creator Toolkit will receive a reward for every NFT minted from such collections.

Mint Referral Reward: This rewards users and interfaces that surface editions created using Zora’s Creator Toolkit for minting, whether directly on Zora or an alternative platform. The referrer shall receive a reward for each individual mint on a Zora Creator contract it enables.

First Minter Reward: This rewards the party who mints the first NFT in an offchain edition created using Zora's Creator Toolkit. When a Creator elects to deploy their own edition onchain, the Creator will automatically mint the first NFT in the edition and thus receive the First Minter Reward.
